Patna: The Bharatiya Janata Party which has won four out of five recently assembly elections in the country does not seem to have forgotten the drubbing it had received in Bihar two years ago. It seems to have realised that one reason for the defeat was poor performance in the border areas which were dominated by the minority community.

It is in these parts that former chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav got the maximum support because of his pro-Muslim image. The region has also attracted Muslim leader and three-times members of Lok Sabha Asaduddin Owaisi because of Muslim dominance.

To make amends and attract Hindu voters in this area which could upset Lalu's future game-plan, the BJP has worked out a new strategy in consultation with the Hindu hardliner and new Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath.

It has decided to set up units of new saffron outfit, Hindu Yuva Vahini, set by the Yogi, in the border areas to polarise the Hindu voters. This trick had worked in the western part of Uttar Pradesh in recent assembly elections and may work in Bihar too in the next assembly polls.

In addition, Yogi may be urged tp aggressively campaign in these areas to consolidate the Hindu vote-bank and tilt the balance in favour of the BJP. Four districts-- Kishanganj, Araria, Purnea and Katihar-- matter most and it is in these districts that Vahini units are proposed to be set up.

The spade work has been already done. The execution will begin from June next. Some other proposals are on the anvil to give a befitting reply to Lalu who has nothing in praise for the party.

The move is also likely to counter Owaisi's overture in these parts of the state. The controversial Muslim leader has been lately eyeing Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, after a reasonable success achieved in Andhra Pradesh.
