Achche Din for Lalu Prasad Yadav and family members may be short-lived

Patna: Former Bihar chief minister and president of Rashtriya Janata Dal Lalu Prasad Yadav may be facing Achche Din but Bure Din have already arrived for people associated with him and his family members.

A few developments which took place on Tuesday (today) bear a testimony. Early on the day one of his close aides, Prabhunath Singh ,was sentenced to life imprisonment along with his two brothers, in a murder case.

The sentence was pronounced by Hazaribagh district court located in neighbouring Jharkhand state which was hearing the case, on his own request, for transfer of case from Siwan which is still a part of Bihar unlike Hazaribagh which has been carved out of .

He was found guilty by the court last week but the quantum of punishment was not pronounced. He was arrested the same day and sent to jail in Hazaribagh jail where he will spend his remaining part of life if the order is not reversed by higher courts or he lives longer than fourteen years which is the minimum period one has to remain in jail even after remission granted by the government.

Singh who is a former member of the Lok Sabha was a minister in Lalu's council of ministers and close to him also because he hails from the area where the latter lives.

Bad days have also begun for another man close to him-- Mohammad Shahabuddin who is generally described as a criminal-turned-politician. Put in Tihar jail in another case, a warrant of arrest has been issued against him by a special Central Investigation Bureau court.

He will be produced in the court next week and the CBI may take him on remand for a few days to make further inquiries. The central investigation agency has already collected a clinching evidence against him in journalist murder case. The journalist, Rajdeo Ranjan, was murdered on May 13 last year. The final charge sheet will be submitted soon.

Both these persons, however, are not as close to him as his daughter Misa Bharti who too has been caught in a bind. Her chartered accountant Rajesh Agarwal was arrested on Tuesday in a money laundering case.

He has been linked to Rs 1000 crores' land deals of the Lalu's family including purchase of two farm houses in Delhi. Raids have been already conducted by income tax officials in connection with these deals.

Officials may collect some more facts and figures regarding these deals, which appear dubious, in course of the interrogation.

If he spills the beans, Lalu and his family members may face the Bure Din too.
