Hyderabad: The Narcotics Control Bureau ( NCB) has seized 231 kilograms of amphetamine drug used in treatment of hyperactivity disorder and arrested a research scientist, Venkat Rama Rao, along with his wife ,Preeti ,and his associate Ravi Shankar Rao.

According to the NCB ,"The 231 kgs of drugs worth Rs 45 crore was seized from various locations in Hyderabad and Bengaluru."

Venkat Rama Rao, a Research scientist in a reputed private Chemical industry in Bengaluru ,had arrived at Hyderabad to collect the contraband from Ravi Shankar Rao.

Thirty grams of amphetamine and cash of Rs 1.23 crore were seized from the house rented by Venkat Rao near Electronics City in Bengaluru and 10 kgs of amphetamine was seized from the manufacturing lab in Bollauram area in Hyderabad.

Earlier, NCB had seized 221 kgs of amphetamine from Miyapur area in Hyderabad and arrested two people.

Also used in treatment of obesity, Amphetamine is a drug, banned under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.

Further investigation is on to find out if some others were also involved in the racket, said NCB.
