New Traffic Rules in Uttar Pradesh: "Three strikes" and Licence Cancel

In a bid to curb the rising incidents of road accidents, the Uttar Pradesh government has implemented a series of stringent measures, introducing changes to the traffic rules. This move comes as a part of the state's renewed focus on road safety, marked by a Road Safety Week from December 15 to December 31.

Cracking Down on Speed Offenders

Acknowledging the peril of high-speed driving, a key decision emerged from a recent meeting chaired by Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra. The authorities have decided to issue fines for those exceeding speed limits, with a specific emphasis on those driving at a rapid pace. Furthermore, a noteworthy provision states that licenses will be canceled if an individual accumulates more than three traffic fines.

Three Strikes and You're Out

The "three-strikes" rule has been introduced, emphasizing that habitual traffic offenders face the risk of losing their driving privileges. Beyond three violations, the authorities will not only cancel the driving license but also invalidate the registration of their vehicles if the violations persist.

Addressing the Root Causes

The Chief Secretary addressed various factors contributing to road accidents during the meeting. Over-speeding, wrong-side driving, driving under the influence, and mobile phone usage were identified as significant causes of accidents. The government aims to tackle these issues head-on with strict penalties for offenders.

Road Safety Awareness Week

In a proactive move, Chief Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra has directed officials to organize a Road Safety Week from December 15 to December 31. This awareness campaign aims to educate the public about the importance of adhering to traffic rules, with a focus on reducing road accidents.

Emergency Response and Critical Care Facilities

The Chief Secretary emphasized the need for inspecting critical care facilities available in the districts. This includes facilities equipped to handle emergencies arising from road accidents. The inspection aims to ensure that individuals affected by accidents receive prompt and effective medical attention.

Training for First Responders

In a bid to enhance the emergency response to road accidents, officials have been directed to provide training to disaster response teams. These trained responders will play a crucial role in rescuing and providing immediate care to those affected by accidents.
