Bhopal: Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) in the Central government, Kalraj Mishra, has questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policy to keeping senior politicians away from ministry.

The minister said, he is not informed of any such rule that prevents senior political leaders of age of more than 75 years to remain on the active posts including those of ministers.

What Kalraj Mishra said:

  • A prominent political face in Uttar Pradesh, Mishra, stated that if there is any such rule, he should also be removed from his portfolio in Central Government.
  • “No one has ever asked me to resign from my post of minister and I am not aware of any such policy made by either government or Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP),” said Mishra.

Ministers affected by the unwritten policy of PM Modi:

  • It may be recalled that two ministers of Madhya Pradesh government, namely Babulal Gaur and Sartaj Singh, had been removed from their portfolios because of this policy, though unwritten.
  • The ministers had also expressed their anger against PM Modi and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan.

Senior leaders are part of advisory committee:

  • According to the party sources, PM Modi has made this rule of avoiding senior political leaders to be included in ministries. The senior leaders were included in an advisory panel made at the instructions of the Prime Minister.
  • BJP senior leader Lalkrishna Advani and Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi were sent to the panel despite their dislike.
  • BJP leader Nazma Heptullah had also been removed from the minister post, following PM Modi’s new rule, and was made the Governor of Manipur.
