New Delhi: Minutes after he landed in the Indian capital, United States (US) Secretary of State John Kerry along with his convoy was stuck in a huge traffic jam near Satya Marg on Monday evening.

“Kerry and his companions were heading from the Indira Gandhi International Airport to a hotel in south Delhi’s Chanakyapuri when they were stuck in the traffic jam,” said a traffic official.

Senior Delhi police and traffic personnel refused to share details of the incident saying it was a matter of security. Moreover, pictures of the traffic jam were shared on several social media platforms by the newsmen accompanying Kerry’s convoy.

Other highlights:

  • Kerry is in New Delhi to attend the second Indi-US Strategic and Commercial Dialogue.
  • It is Kerry’s fourth visit to the country.
  • The traffic jam was formed owing to water logging caused by heavy downpour in the city.
  • Trying to downplay the incident, the police officials said the US State Secretary’s convoy was never stuck but had slowed down in the heavy traffic.
