Budgam: One militant and three stone pelters were killed in an anti-militancy operation in Chadoora area of Budgam district that took place in the wee hours on Wednesday.

More than 17 people were critically injured in the operation that took place between the security forces and militants . The injured were immediately taken to the nearby hospital where doctor said that few of them are in critical condition.

The police official said, "The search operation turned into a gunbattle after militants opened fire on security forces. As the security forces were engaged in the exchange of firing with holed-up militants, a large number of protesters started pelting stones at the law enforcing agencies."

The encounter took place after the jawans launched a cordon and anti-militancy operation in the district after they got a tip-off about the presence of militants in the area.

The army official said, "One militant has been killed and a weapon has been recovered from the scene of the encounter. The deceased has not been identified yet"
