Ahmedabad: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu along with his wife was welcomed by his Indian counterpart PM Narendra Modi in Gujarat on Wednesday before the leaders begin their eight kilometre roadshow together.

The two PMs will travel from Ahmedabad Airport to Sabarmati Ashram in a roadshow.

While the Indian PM has arrived at the Gujarat Airport in Ahmedabad, the Israel PM would also be arriving the city any moment. The latter will be welcomed by PM Modi.

This is Modi's first visit to his home state after last year's assembly elections where the BJP barely managed to retain power.

The cavalcade's 14km-long route is heavily guarded by security forces, including Israeli snipers.

The two leaders will be in Gujarat for the day, during which they will visit an entrepreneurial centre and a horticultural centre.
