Female suicide bomber had plans of disrupting R-Day gala, arrested

Srinagar: An alleged female suicide bomber, having plans of disrupting Republic Day celebrations, has been arrested here along with an accomplice on Friday.

The woman was identified as Sadiya Anwar Sheikh, 18, from Pune, Additional Director General of Police Munir Khan told the media. She was arrested late Thursday and was being questioned, he said.

"A lady who is suspected to be a suicide bomber has been apprehended, we will verify facts and talk to her, only then can we come to a conclusion," said Munir Khan.

Intelligence reports had earlier warned that a non-local female suicide bomber had entered Srinagar, leading to a massive hunt ahead of Republic Day on Friday.
