LUCKNOW, The family members of Akhlaq, who was killed in infamous beef lynching case in Dadri of Gautambuddh Nagar in September last, have finally been given the keys of four single bedroom flats in Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh.

Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav had announced to give them flats as compensation to victim family.

The flats, of 40 sq metres each situated in Pi-2 sector of Greater Noida, were provided to Akhlaq’s wife, Ikrama, Akhlaq’s brothers, Jaan Mohammad, Jameel and Afzal Ahmad. A lot of file work had taken place in allotment of the flats as various government agencies including NOIDA, Housing Department had expressed their inability to give accommodation in the absence of laid out guidelines.

Chief Minister made available the flats sparing money from his discretionary fund, an official spokesman told Newztrack.com here today. He said the flats were redone with repairs and painting before the registry was done and possession was given on Thursday last.

Akhlaq was killed by an irate mob alleging him of storing beef in his house. The issue had assumed a national proposition and a lot of hue and cry was made over the incident while several political parties had deplored the act.

It was after Akhlaq’s family came to meet Chief Minister in Lucknow on October 17 last, when the compensation of Rs 30 lakhs and flats to the family was announced by the latter. Subsequently, a probe was also ordered by the CM on which the family had expressed its satisfaction on December 6 last.

Meanwhile, Sartaj, brother of Akhlaq, has expressed his gratitude to UP Government, Chief Minister in particular, for this gesture.
