UP: Single-day Covid jump breaches 18,000-mark, Lucknow tops tally with 5,382 cases

On Tuesday, 18,021 new coronavirus cases have been found in the state. While in Lucknow , new 5,382 cases of corona have been reported in a day.

LUCKNOW: Active cases of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in India witnessed a jump of 63,689 cases on Tuesday and currently stands at 1,264,698 according to the latest data from the Union health ministry. It also accounts for 9.24 per cent of the overall confirmed cases in India so far, the ministry data showed.

Covid in UP:

Uttar Pradesh has broken all records of Covid infection this year. Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday reported its highest single-day spike in coronavirus numbers and for the first time crossed 18,000 new cases.

On Tuesday, 18,021 new coronavirus cases have been found in the state. While in Lucknow , new 5,382 cases of corona have been reported in a day.

Special teams deployed in every Covid ward, containment zones sealed

Amidst the surge in the number of COVID-19 cases in Lucknow, the city administration has taken several measures to stop spread of the deadly virus, news agency ANI reported. On Monday, ADCP Central Chiranjeev Nath Sinha said, "We have created separate teams for every ward. All the containment zones have been sealed to stop the spread of Covid."

He further added, "We are providing masks to those who can't afford it. Those who are not wearing masks intentionally will be fined."

Last week, the state government imposed night curfew in Lucknow in a bid to effectively control the rise in cases of Covid-19. The curfew will remain in force between 9 pm and 6 am till 30 April.

UP CM Yogi Adityanath:

Mmeanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has warned officers in the districts in a very strict manner about the rising Covid-19 infection in the State. He said, "There should not be any confusion, there will not be any lockdown. We will not let the public die, there should be no complaint of shortage of beds and all the preparations should be made beforehand."

However, witnessing a recent spike in its daily new cases, UP accounts for 6.45 per cent of the national active caseload.

While the capital city Lucknow alone has 23,090 active cases, Prayagraj (9,273), Varanasi (8,021), Kanpur Nagar (4,360) and Gorakhpur (2,416) are the other top contributors among districts.
