A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between UP Khandi Board and Amazon on Tuesday thus making Uttar Pradesh the first state to have Amazon platform for sale of its own Khadi products. The Amazon will also involve in education and training of Khadi artisans in the rural areas through existing seven organisations already enrolled with the former, Gopal Pillai, the senior functionary of Amazon India said on the occasion of signing of MoU, a day ahead of much-talked about UP Investors Summit 2018.

Speaking at the signing event, Navneet Sehgal, the Principal Secretary of Khadi department in UP, said the Khadi products available online would include shirts, kurtas, Dhotis and towels. He said that despite the variety of Khadi products in UP, the marketing had been a major issue. ''After this, the products of Khadi will get global exposure through popular online sale platform of Amazon,'' Sehgal said.

Notably, not only the rural economy would get a boost by popularisation of Khadi but also the individual artisans would receive international recognition and market, which was unimaginable till now.
