Gorakhpur tragedy: SC grants bail to UP hospital oxygen supplier

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday granted bail to Manish Bhandari who had been in jail for past seven months for stopping the oxygen supply to BRD Medical College which led to the death of several children in August 2017.

Bhandari, the contract supplier of oxygen s was booked for criminal conspiracy and criminal breach of trust under sections of the Indian Penal Code.

A bench comprised of Chief Justice Dipak Misra, Justice AM Khanwilkar and Justice DY Chandrachud granted him bail.

The plea for bail was opposed by Aishwarya Bhati appearing for Uttar Pradesh.

Around 30 children died at the state-run Baba Raghav Das Medical College and Hospital in Gorakhpur on August 10 and 11, 2017, reportedly due to shortage of liquid oxygen.
