Corona has resulted in behavioral change and lifestyle of many individuals and even children are going through very tough time. For parents there have been several questions of utmost concern, be it the future of their children or the mounting health issues due to restricted outdoor activities. Here are few suggestions given by developmental psychologist Akansha Rastogi during her talk session with Newstrack sub-editor Gaurav Chhabra.

Here’s what she said: “Everyone is dealing with the pandemic in their own unique way. It is not easy, but you did it! As far as children are concerned I would like to say that undoubtedly it’s a challenging situation and few things are out of our control. However, what I bring into notice that it is one of those rare times when we are together as a family and even if we are involved in our own work, we stay in close proximity to each other which is unusual in this fast pacing lifestyle.”

She further added: “We can use this time to strengthen our family bond, by validating each other’s feelings, holding conversation with children, being silly at times and most importantly helping them to explore their surroundings. We have no idea how kids can be super creative and letting their imagination unfold can be such an enriching experience for everyone. Let them be imaginative, explore, play and create”.

As far as studies are concerned, we can have a fixed structure time for it which can be mutually decided by the parent and child and other things can be negotiated as per the situation. Being a part of decision making process gives them a sense of responsibility. Also as it is a pandemic, so for students in higher classes, colleges or institutes are considering the fact and modifying their entrances as well as curriculum. It is important to remember that “You and your child are not alone, we are in this together”, she said.
