SA vs Ind, 3rd ODI: Century number 34 for run-machine Virat Kohli
Cape Town: Continuing his brilliance with the bat, Indian skipper Virat Kohli on Wednesday slammed 34th One Day International hundred in the third match of the six-match series against South Africa.
Continuing his glorious run in the tour, Kohli (160 not out off 159 balls; 4X12, 6X2), who slammed 112 and 46 not out in the first two ODIs, shouldered the Indian innings single-handedly to power his team to a huge total in anticipation that the visitors register a historic 3-0 lead on South African soil.
With this superlative ton, Virat also eclipsed Sourav Ganguly's record of having most tons to his name as Indian skipper. Now, Kohli leads the list with 12 centuries as Indian captain.
Most 100s for India's ODI captains:
12 V Kohli (43 innings)
11 S Ganguly (142)
06 S Tendulkar (70)/ MS Dhoni (171)
04 M Azharuddin (162)
Seeing wickets tumble at the other end, Virat played a sensible knock, keeping the scorecard ticking.
Virat's 160* is the highest by an Indian captain away from home after Kapil Dev's 175* against Zimbabwe in Turnbridge Wells in 1983.
