Nidahas Trophy: India restricts Sri Lanka to 152/9 in 19 overs

Colombo: After a fabulous 55-run knock by opener Kusal Mendis, Indian bowlers did a great job to restrict Sri Lanka to 152/9 in 19 overs in the rain-affected Nidahas Trophy match at the R Premadasa stadium here on Monday.

Shardul Thakur impressed once again by picking up four wickets and conceding only 27 runs off his 4 overs. Mendis played a brilliant 55-run knock which came off 38 balls and was laced with 3 fours and 3 sixes.

Kusal Perera, who has been in deadly form this series, failed to perform today as he was taken by Washington Sundar at the individual score of 3 runs off 4 balls. Danushka Gunathilaka started off nicely but failed to last long. He scored 17 runs off 8 balls with a six.

Upul Tharanga tried to consolidate the inning but failed to capitalise after staying at the crease for long enough. He scored 22 runs off 24 balls with a four and a six.

Skipper Thisara Perera blasted off two sixes in his 15-run knock which came off only six balls. Dasun Shanaka added 19 runs off 16 balls with a four and a six. Akila Dananjaya scored 5 runs off 11 balls while Suranga Lakmal scored 5 off 4.

Apart from Thakur, Sundar also bowled a brilliant spell of four overs taking two wickets and conceding only 21 runs. Yuzvendra Chahal went for 33 runs and got one wicket in his four, while Vijay Shankar gave 30 runs in his 3 for a wicket. Jaydev Unadkat once again went expensive and gave 33 runs in 3 overs for a wicket.

India would look forward to win this crucial match as so far all the teams, including Bangladesh, have managed to win one match each out of two matches they have played so far.
