IPL 2018: Mumbai Indians to play Chennai Super Kings in opener

Durban: MS Dhoni has been an integral part of team India for over 14 years now, and with such huge amount of experience, the Jharkhand lad is no more only a wicket-keeper batsman but is also actively playing the role of an on-field 'mentor'.

A similar instance happened in the first One Day International (ODI) against South Africa when Dhoni’s advice to Kuldeep Yadav did wonders to team India. The advice helped the young wrist-spinner, who has the experience of just 15 ODIs, went on to take three important wickets which restricted the home team from getting to a big total.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Kuldeep said, "Actually I was confused a bit what I should bowl because I am playing in South Africa for the first time and it was a new experience for me. The wind was good and the ball was drifting so I was confused what to bowl, and which variation to use. So I was asking Mahi bhai (Dhoni) and he told me 'bowl as you are bowling'. It is good that he keeps advising from behind the wickets, it gets easier."

"When you have two legends, Virat (Kohli) and Mahi, one is leading the team and the other has led the team, it is helpful. As a spinner, Mahi bhai does 50 per cent of your work because he has played so much Cricket, he reads the batsmen easily," Kuldeep added.

As far as the 50-over World Cup is concerned, which is scheduled to be played in England in 2019, the young Indian side surely needs a veteran like MSD who understands the game very well and possesses the ability to trace and exploit the shortcomings of the opponents.

In addition to his great understanding of the sport, Dhoni is unarguably the best wicket-keeper in the world right now and his inputs to the bowlers, especially spinners, have helped team India pull out victories in many pressure games.

With an aggressive temperament which skipper Virat Kohli has, MS Dhoni's calmness has been very instrumental in holding the nerves of the other players in the pressure matches. Similar approach would be required to win a tournament as big as the World Cup.

So, we can say that MS Dhoni is surely is an indispensable asset for team India in limited-over Cricket as far as World Cup 2019 is concerned.
