Maha Shivratri 2022: How To Make Special Thandai For Bhog

New Delhi: The festival of Maha Shivratri will be celebrated across the country on 1 March 2022. On this holy day of the marriage of Mahadev and Parvati, the devotees of Bholenath start preparing for the festival from morning itself. Bhandaras are held from place to place and Mahadev is offered his favorite things.

Bhang is also very dear to Mahadev. On this day many people offer Thandai to Mahadev and it is distributed to the devotees in the form of prasad. Thandai is made both with cannabis and without cannabis. It is said that the festival of Mahashivratri is incomplete without Thandai. Material for making Thandai:

One liter milk

1/2 cup almonds

6 tsp poppy seeds

1/2 cup fennel seeds

2 tsp black pepper

5 green cardamom

4 tsp melon seeds

4 tsp cucumber seeds

2 tsp Rose leaves

sugar as per taste.

First of all, soak almonds, melons, watermelon and cucumber seeds, poppy seeds, fennel, rose leaves, black pepper and cardamom in water for overnight in a bowl. Soak almonds separately.

Peel the almonds in the morning and grind the rest of the ingredients together with water. Make a very fine paste. Now boil the milk and let it cool down. After that mix sugar according to taste in it. If there is saffron then add some saffron too.

Now take water in two glasses and take a muslin cloth. Put the paste in the cloth and filter the paste by adding water. If you want, you can also sieve with the help of a sieve. After this mix this water in milk. After that keep it in the fridge for some time. If you want, you can also garnish it by chopping some dry fruits finely. After cooling, add ice to it. After this, offer Bhog to Mahadev and distribute it to everyone as Prasad.

It is said that when Mahadev's body was burnt due to drinking poison during the churning of the ocean, then cold things were offered to him, which brought him peace. Since then, he loves cold things. That's why Thandai is offered to Mahadev.
