IPL 2018 auction: Meet the Under-19 millionaire brigade

New Delhi: They would have never imagined of becoming a crorepati in the mid of Under-19 World Cup. In the lines of their maverick performances, India's U-19 stars Prithvi Shaw, Shubman Gill, Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Shivam Mavi were sold for big bucks in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 auction.

Coach Rahul Dravid had asked the young guns to focus on U-19 World Cup before they went under the hammer at the auction in Bengaluru.

"There is an auction every year, but not every year will they have an opportunity to play for India in possibly a World Cup semifinal. That does not come very often," India's U-19 coach Dravid had told the boys.

With out of the blue moment for the boys just on the eve of India-Pakistan game in U-19 semi-final., Dravid would be looking to repeat his inspiring words.

Kamlesh Nagarkoti

Pacer Kamlesh Nagarkoti is the costliest Under-19 player in the IPL 2018 auction. Owing to his capability of consistently bowling at speeds of 140s, he has been picked up by the Kolkata Knight Riders for a whopping Rs 3.2 crores. He had his base price at Rs 20 lakh.

Nagarkoti has so far bagged seven wickets with best figures of 3/18 against Bangladesh in the quarter-final.

Impressed with his average speed of 145kph, even former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly had asked Virat Kohli to keep an eye on him (and his fellow pacer Shivam Mavi).

Shivam Mavi

Medium pace bowler and a right-handed batsman Shivam Mavi is the second most expensive U-19 Indian colt to join the cash-rich league. The 19-year old pacer from Uttar Pradesh was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 3 crore. Mavi who aspires to become the next Dale Steyn want to make in team India, one day.

In his four games, Shivam Mavi has claimed eight wickets at an economy rate of 4.09. Mavi has 3/45 as his best bowling figures in the U-19 World Cup so far.

Shubman Gill

The commander in chief of skipper Prithvi Shaw, Shubman Gill is bought by KKR for Rs 1.80 crore. The Punjab lad is doing wonders in the U-19 World Cup, scoring 239 with a highest total of 90 versus Zimbabwe. He has hit three half-centuries in four games. The youngster has the potential to make it big in the cricketing world and of course, in IPL. Gill was the leading run-scorer in the ODI series against England in 2017.

Prithvi Shaw

Indian U-19 captain Prithvi Shaw, 18, has remained instrumental in team's success in the tournament so far. Shaw, who has been snapped up by Delhi Daredevils for Rs 1.20 crore, has scored 191 runs in the U-19 WC so far, including his 94 in the first match against Australia.

Shaw is an extraordinary talent with five first-class hundreds even before entering the real cricketing world. He had scored 961 runs for Mumbai in his debut season.The right-hand opening batsman was Mumbai’s second-highest scorer in the 2017-18 Ranji season with 537 runs in six matches at an average of 48.81.
