How to Make Delicious Gujiya at Home: A Step-by-Step Guide for Holi 2024

Gujiya, the quintessential Indian sweet treat, takes center stage during the festive season of Holi. These delectable dumplings are filled with a rich mixture of khoya (reduced milk), nuts, and aromatic spices, then deep-fried to golden perfection. If you’re craving a taste of tradition, follow our easy guide to create mouthwatering gujiyas in your own kitchen.

Ingredients:

1 cup khoya (mawa)

1 cup powdered sugar

1 cup all-purpose flour (maida)

1/4 cup ghee (clarified butter)

1/2 cup chopped nuts (almonds, cashews, and pistachios)

1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder

Oil for frying

Instructions:

Prepare the Dough:

Mix the all-purpose flour and ghee to form a crumbly texture.

Gradually add water and knead into a smooth dough. Cover and let it rest for 30 minutes.

Make the Filling:

Heat khoya in a pan until it turns light brown.

Add powdered sugar, chopped nuts, and cardamom powder. Mix well and let it cool.

Shape the Gujiyas:

Roll out small portions of the dough into circles.

Place a spoonful of the filling in the center.

Fold the circle in half, sealing the edges with a fork.

Fry the Gujiyas:

Heat oil in a deep pan.

Fry the gujiyas on medium heat until golden brown.

Remove and drain excess oil on paper towels.

Serve and Enjoy:

Let the gujiyas cool completely.

Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve.
