Lucknow: Summer break for children means an extended breather that recharges and refreshes bodies and minds. It gives opportunity to explore their interest and capacity. But in this lockdown period summer vacation is a breather from hectic online studies.

Summer vacations are here again and children are waiting to get relaxed and have fun, but this time they have to stay at home as lockdown is still in place. Staying home doesn’t have to be boring.

Here are some tips to stay mentally, physically fit and alert, also stay out of boredom. So start making list of some useful and interesting activities.

1. Yoga and meditation

Yoga and meditation both are helpful in physical and mental well being of children. Regular practice of yoga helps to achieve a peaceful body and mind. It helps in reducing stress and helps our body to fight many diseases.

Meditation is a discipline which has a lot of benefits for parents as well as children. Meditation reduce stress and controls anxiety. It should be done at least 10- 15 minutes daily.

2. Coloring and painting

Let your child play with brush and colours. Painting and drawing activities play a beneficial role in the development of one’s brain. These both activities help in releasing stress besides they are full of fun and excitement; moreover children learn to use their Imagination.

3.Gardening and pot making

Gardening and planting plants take children one step closer to the nature and this helps in their studies too. Motivate them to make pots using plastic bottles, also they will love to water the plants, these activities will keep them occupied for a long time.

4.Cooking and other household work

In this lockdown teach your children some basic cooking, like making tea, coffee, making chapaties , kneading the dough etc. Children will take immense interest and pleasure as earlier you used to say a big ‘NO’ for the same things.

Asking children to make bed before and after sleeping will make them more responsible.

5. Improve writing skills

Motivate your child to write lines paragraphs poems and stories according their age. Show them some pictures as hint to write short stories they can also improve cursive strokes and practice calligraphy.

6. Play time

Play motivates children to use their imagination, physical and emotional strength and creativity. It is important for healthy brain development. In lockdown period they will hardly go out to play games in this hard situation, so motivate them for indoor games like finding out hidden treasure, playing cards, ludo, puzzles solving hide and seek etc.

It is human nature to complain, let’s try to change things this time and try to see positive in negative. Alone we can’t change the world but what we can do is we try to change ourselves, we can change our perspective. It is easier said than done but can we not try to stop thinking about things which depress us. Remember, we are far better than many people who are stuck in all sorts of awkward situations in this lockdown.
