Shamli: Gearing up for the 2017 Assembly Elections in Uttar Pradesh, the Election Commission had asked the Shamli Police to prepare a list of probable ‘trouble makers’ during the time of polling. To everyone’s surprise, names of BJP National President Amit Shah and UP Cabinet Minister Azam Khan have been included in such a list.

EC’s directions came in a bid to keep a watch on politicians who may get engaged in delivering hate speeches during the time of election.

Why Amit Shah and Azam Khan’s names are in the list?

  • The list include names of leaders against whom cases were registered during 2012 assembly elections, 2014 Lok Sabha elections and 2015 by-elections
  • Amit Shah was charged under section 125 of the People's Representation Act during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections
  • Similarly, Azam Khan was charged under 153A, 295A and 505 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) during 2014 Lok Sabha Polls

The list contains a total of 46 names including politicians SP MLA Nahid Hasan, Congress MP Harendra Malik, MLC Virendra Singh and Rashtriya Lok Dal's Kartaar Singh Bhadana.
