Uttarakhand chief minister faces rough weather again

Dehradun: The Rajya Sabha election from Uttarakhand has created a fresh trouble for chief minister Harish Rawat who has recently won the floor test in state assembly, ending the President’s rule and bringing him back to power.

A group supporting his government, Progressive Democratic Party (PDF), has decided to put up a candidate for the Rajya Sabha election to fill the vacancy to be caused in the upper house from the state.

However, the group’s candidate, Dinesh Dhane, has not filed his nomination yet and efforts are on persuade the group not to go for it. Tuesday is the last date for filing the nomination .

If he files his papers and does not withdraw he will be opposing the Congress which is the ruling the state with the PDF support. The party has decided to field Pradip Tamta who was elected to the Lok Sabha in 2009 and defeated in the previous Lok Sabha election.

The state will have only one vacancy in Rajya Sabha.

For the BJP, this development is a god-send opportunity to create fresh tension in the valley. It is all-set to back the PDF candidate if the group decides to go ahead with its proposal. Rawat is already facing problems created by the rebels in his party.

It was because of them that the P rule was imposed which was later lifted following Supreme Court’s intervention.
