UP woman IPS officer scales Antarctica’s highest peak

Lucknow: An Uttar Pradesh cadre woman IPS officer, Aparna Kumar has climbed the Mount Vinson, the highest peak in the Antarctic sub-continent, an official said on Wednesday.

Aparna climbed the 17,000-feet-high peak of the Mount Vinson Massif on January 17 last.

Along with the Indian tri-colour, she also hoisted the Uttar Pradesh Police flag on the mountain peak.

Kumar is the first woman officer of any All-India Services to have done so.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has congratulated her for the great achievement.

Mount Vinson is the highest mountain in Antarctica which is about 4,892 meters high.

Earlier on November 7 last, she had also scaled highest mountain peak of Indonesia, Carstensz having the height of 4,884 mts. She was also felicitated with the ‘Rani Laxmibai Veerta Puruskar’ by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav in March 2015.
