UP bypoll result 2018: SP wins Noorpur, RLD clinches Kairana

Lucknow:A�It was a wide margin of loss for the Bharatiya Janata Party in Noorpur as theA�Samajwadi Party's candidate Naeem Ul Hasan won the assembly seat by 6211 votes.

In anotherA�major set back to the ruling BJP in Uttar Pradesh, its candidate is trailing in the high-stake Kairana parliamentary constituency.

The BJP again had a tough competition in politically and communally sensitive Kairana Lok Sabha Constituency where it had fielded former MP Hukum Singh's daughter Mriganka Singh. Facing stiff competition from Rashtriya Lok Dal's (RLD) Tabassum Hasan, Mriganka accepted defeat.

Tabasum was supported by Congress.

Counting for the Uttar Pradesh bypoll results began in the Kairana and Noorpur constituency on Thursday. These Kairana Lok Sabha constituency and Noorpur Assembly Constituency by-elections are being considered as the litmus test for the Bharatiya Janata Party as well as the united opposition.

After debacle in few previous major elections of the country and Uttar Pradesh itself, the saffron party now needs to prove that it hasn't lost its magic and is still moving ahead on their agenda of making India 'Congress Mukt' while all eyes will be on the unity of the opposition parties, whose candidates in the fray, to see if they can bring the BJP on back-foot.

According to the early trends in both the constituencies, the united opposition had sent the BJP on back-foot in Kairana but the saffron party is holding it strongly in Noorpur.

It is to be mentioned that re-polling in five polling booths of Shamli and 68 booths in Saharanpur falling under the Kairana parliamentary constituency was also conducted on Wednesday amid tight security.

Voting for the Kairana parliamentary seat and Noorpur assembly constituency was held on Monday.

In all 160,962,8 voters in Kairana of which 873,120 men, 736,431 women and 77 of the third gender while in Noorpur there are 306,226 voters here of which are men, 141,924 women and 10 third gender voters locked the fate of the candidates.

It is to be mentioned that the Congress and the BSP has decided not field their candidates and support the opposition in the elections. The Aam Aadmi Party has also stated that it will extend support to the RLD.

Why these polls?

These two constituencies are going under polls to fill the vacant seats of Lok Sabha and UP Vidhan Sabha. Kairana polls are being conducted in the wake of the seat that was left vacant after the death of Member or Parliament from BJP Hukum Singh. Here, BJP has fielded Singha��s daughter Mriganka Singh for the post while Tabassum Hasan has been named by the RLD as their candidate.

The Noorpur polls are being conducted to fill the seat of Lokendra Singh which was left vacant after his sudden demise in an accident. BJP candidate Avani Singh is contesting the elections in this constituency against Samajwadi partya��s Naeem Ul Hasan.

These elections could be called as the litmus test for the BJ[P as in the by-polls, held in Gorakhpur and Phulpur, teh saffron party lost to the SP-BSP alliance and the recent Karnataka assembly polls have also been a major twist in BJPa��s winning story.
