Lucknow: Rajiv Kumar, the 1981-batch IAS officer, is likely to take over as the new Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh.

The logistics about his appointment are expected to be completed on Tuesday when Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visits the national capital. Rajiv Kumar, currently the Secretary in Shipping department of government of India, commands a clean image and was principal Secretary of Rural Development in UP before moving to the Centre.

His name was doing rounds ever since the Bharatiya Janata Party came to power in UP few days ago. It is said that his candidature for the top bureaucratic post of the state had consent of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as well. The current incumbent of the post Rahul Bhatnagar was appointed the Chief Secretary by CM Aklhilesh Yadav on September 13, 2016 replacing Deepak Singhal.

Meanwhile, the Principal Secretary ,Power and Chairman, UP Power Corporation Uttar Pradesh Sanjay Agarwal is being tipped to be the Principal Secretary to Chief Minister in UP. The 1984-batch IAS officer enjoyed confidence of previous Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and the functioning of UPPCL had come in for scrutiny on several occasion.

While the selection of Rajiv Kumar may not invite any argument, the choice of Sanjay Agarwal is likely to raise a few eye brows because conduct of A P Mishra, his next in command in UPPCL,is rumoured to be under severe scrutiny by the Yogi government.

Notably, the Prime Minister Modi had to make many adverse comments about the power scenario of the state during his election speeches.
