The former party Vice President filed his nomination at 1030 hours on Monday and is expected to get elected unanimously as he is the single contender for the post, the party officials said.

A host of party heavyweights were present when Gandhi submitted his nomination papers for the party chief's post at its headquarter. He had over 90 sets of nomination papers filed to support his candidature.

The party members, however, had declared RaGa as their president even before he was elected so. Posters and hoardings were pasted at the party headquarters that had congratulation messages on them declaring Gandhi as their new president. It is to be mentioned that Rahul is the member from the fifth generation to hold the party reins which he would be taking over from his mother Sonia Gandhi.
