Police constable kills himself after shooting colleagues in UP

Bulandshahr: In a shocking incident, a policeman on Monday shot himself to death after killing one of his colleagues with his service rifle at the Police Lines near counting (gadna) office in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr district. Two other cops were also injured in the firing.

The incident:

Constable Saurabh Tyagi, who was reportedly a patient of depression, came out of his office in late evening hours and opened fire at his colleagues. While the other policemen were hiding, constables Chandra Pal and Manoj tried to stop Tyagi and were hit in stomach and chest, respectively. Head constable Manveer Singh was also injured in the attack.

“Manoj died on the spot while Chandra Pal and Manveer were rushed to a local hospital. Subsequently, Tyagi went to a nearby ground and killed himself shooting in the head,” said Sujit Pandey, the Meerut Zone Inspector General (IG).

About Saurabh Tyagi:

  • 34-year-old Tyagi was a 2005 batch constable hailing from Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh.
  • He was posted in the counting office inside the Police Lines.
