Lucknow: The 'Akshay Tritiya', considered to be an auspicious day for Hindus when they buy gold on this day, will not be the same this year. For the first time in 100 years the conjunction of planets is not favourable as there is no 'shubh muhurat' or 'shubh lagan' on any day for the next two months after May 4 this year for tying the marital knot, panchang says..

'Akshay Tritiya' is celebrated on the third day of Shukla Paksha (bright fortnight) of Vaisakha when both the sun and the moon are at their extreme point. The occasion is considered very auspicious by Hindus and Jains but not this year. In a rare combination of planets , the Venus, considered the lord of marital life, is combusted this time hence no marriage can be solemnized on this day.

Falling on Monday i.e May 9, the buying of yellow metal is going to be affected in a big way as it is not that auspicious this day, pundits claim. Beside Venus, the Jupiter is also not favourable as per the planetary conjunctures leading to a lacklusture 'Akhshay Tritiya' in 2016. the jewellers also rue the fact that in the absence of 'auspicious muhurat', the book orders of the jewellery are very very low.

Even otherwise, the marriage muhurats in 2016 are less as compared to previous years coupled with placement of planets Venus and Jupiter proved to be further dampener. Though, the purchase of yellow or white metal is not prohibited but the absence of 'shubh lagna' may impact the trade to a great deal.
