Washington: The United States, over the dissatisfaction expressed by Pakistan over India becoming a member of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG), said it is not about an arms race, but about civilian use of nuclear energy.

"This is about peaceful civil use of nuclear energy and it not about an arms race or nuclear weapons. We certainly hope that Pakistan understands that," State Department Deputy Spokesman Mark Toner told reporters at his daily news conference on Friday.

The US, however, has fingers crossed, ahead of the crucial meeting of the 48-nation NSG.

INDIA READY FOR MEMBERSHIP

United States believes that India meets missile technology control regime requirements and India is ready for membership but the decision will be taken by a consensus body, Tony adds.
