New Delhi: Delayed by a week, the south-west monsoon reached Kerala coast on Wednesday much to the relief of farmers as well as the government.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) confirmed arrival of monsoon in Kerala. It is expected to cover other parts of peninsular India in the next few days.

The South-west monsoon normally reaches Kerala on June 1. Though the southern state has been receiving rain for the last few days , it has been called pre monsoon rain .

According to IMD, Kerala is expected to receive heavy to very heavy rains while good showers are predicted at many places in Karnataka , Rayalaseema and North Eastern states of India during the next 24 hours.

A good monsoon may lead to an early review of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) monetary policy bank is slated to meet in August for the purpose.
