India needs a PM who works, not just speaks: Mayawati

Lucknow: Lashing out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati on Saturday said on the lines of Central government, state government is also failing to prove itself on almost every front.

She said be it PM Modi or CM Yogi, commoners are having some bad time under their regime.

"This is happening, when there is a BJP government, both at Centre and in state. The party during the 2017 UP polls made tall promises, which lured the people. Like the Modi government at Centre, the Yogi Adityanath government in the state is also turning out to be a government of pretence and deceit," said Mayawati in a meeting in its party headquarters.

She said BSP is being targeted but the party is standing strong despite all around attacks.

Attacking BJP and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), former UP CM said both are misleading the people.

"The RSS is now openly using government wealth, facilities and power to push its agenda of casteism, communalism and violent politics. In this case, BSP is being specifically targeted," she said.

Blaming central and state governments for fanning the communal riots, Mayawati said people are living in the atmosphere of fear.

"The coming of these casteist forces to power both in the state and at the Centre drops enough hints that they are interested in dividing the country and not uniting it. An atmosphere of fear is prevailing throughout the country, and there are incidents of targeted casteist and communal violence being reported," she said.

Mayawati also targeted the saffron party over cow protection, saying, BJP is hiding its failures by resorting to 'gauraksha'.
