Allahabad: The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday directed state government to apprise, within 10 days, on a Public Interest Litigation seeking dismissal of Rajiv Kumar, a senior IAS officer, from the services. Kumar is convicted in a corruption case and was sent to jail after his surrender on Monday.

The Bench comprising justice Dilip Gupta and justice RK Kakkar passed the above order while hearing a petition filed by Former DGP of Punjab Julio F Ribeiro and several other retired officers.

Petitioner’s contention was that Rajiv Kumar is convicted by Court in a corruption case and his conviction was upheld by High Court. Hence, as per rule 14(1) of All India Service (discipline and appeal) Rules major punishment must be imposed upon him by the state government and he should be dismissed from services.

It is to recall that Kumar is convicted in a corruption case involving plot allotment while he was an officer of Noida authority in 1994. Kumar was held guilty by CBI Court and was given three years of imprisonment with Rs 50,000 fine.
