IPL SRH vs MI: Dhawan drives Hyderabad to 7-wicket win over Mumbai

Hyderabad: A calm and composed Shikhar Dhawan guided Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to a much needed seven-wicket win over Mumbai Indians (MI) in Indian Premier League (IPL) match at the Rajiv Gandhi International ground here on Monday.

Dhawan remained unbeaten at 62 runs off 46 deliveries, an inning that was decorated with 4 fours and 2 sixes. After losing skipper David Warner on the first ball of the second over, Dhawan and Moises Henriques (44 off 35, 6 fours) added 91 runs for the second wicket which laid the foundation stone of SRH's seventh's win this season.

Yuvraj Singh had a short stay at the crease as he got out after scoring 9 runs off 11 balls with 1 boundary, while Vijay Shankar added 15 runs off 12 balls and finished off the proceedings with a six.

Mitchell McClenaghan, Lasith Malinga and Jasprit Bumrah bagged one wicket each, while Harbhajan Singh failed to get any success on a slow track which had much on offer for the spinners. He, however, spent only 23 runs in his four overs. Karn Sharma also failed to impress, unlike the SRH spinners, as he conceded 19 runs off his 2 overs for no wickets.

Earlier, Mumbai Indians won the toss and took a strange decision of batting first. The decision started hurting them from the second over when they lost Lendl Simmons (1 off 5) with just 4 runs on the scoreboard. Nitish Rana was the second to depart after adding 9 runs off 11 balls, with 2 boundaries.

Parthiv Patel (23 off 17, 1 four, 1 six) also followed them back to the dug-out leaving MI under immense pressure at 36/3. Skipper Rohit Sharma, however, tried his best to elevate his team to a challenging total with a 67-run inning that came off 45 balls and was laced with 6 fours and 2 sixes, but failed to do so.

Hardik Pandya looked in a tizzy tonight as he could only score 15 runs off 24 deliveries he faced. Kieron Pollard (5) and Karn Sharma (5) also failed to put their bat on the accelerator during the slog overs, which consequently could only take MI to a small score of 138/7.

Siddharth Kaul was the pick of the bowlers for Sunrisers Hyderabad as he picked up 3 wickets in his four overs for 24 runs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was once again exceptional in his four overs as he conceded 29 runs for 2 wickets.

Mohammad Nabi, who returned to the squad after a long gap, bowled a phenomenal four-over spell and went for only 13 runs for 1 wicket despite bowling three overs in the powerplay overs. Rashid Khan continued his good form with the ball giving away 22 runs in four overs for a wicket. Mohammed Siraj (0/32, 3 overs) and Moises Henriques (0/15), however, were expensive in their spells.

With this win SRH has strengthened its chances of qualifying for the playoffs.
