UP hospitals to get 2,065 new doctors for better health services

Lucknow: Sensing the urgency, the Uttar Pradesh government will bring our an ordinance to facilitate the people seeking medical treatment by appointing 2,065 doctors through UP Public Service Commission in the hospitals across the state.

It could only be possible due to proactive approach of UP Health Minister Siddharth Nath Singh who has worked really hard to materialise the plan which was first proposed during the Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) regime. After Mayawati, Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party (SP) government also failed to make it a reality.

As no session is underway in the UP Vidhan Sabha right now, the current state government has decided to bring an ordinance and help the people get proper medical attention in the government hospitals across the state.

Speaking over the same, the UP Health Minister said, "We are committed to fulfilling the shortage of doctors in the government hospitals. The appointments are being made on the priority basis to ensure better health services in the hospitals. We are also concentrating on appointing adequate number of specialist doctors."

"We have also directed UPPSC to fulfill the health department's request on priority and speed up recruitment process for the vacant posts," he added.

What else Siddharth nath Singh said?

• The health department had requested UPPSC to recruit 2,220 doctors in 2014-15 and 1,066 doctors in 2015-16 (total 3286 doctors were requested to be recruited).
• The commission has now ordered to recruit a total of 2,065 doctors this year.
• The department has also sent out doctrine to the commission of requirement of 1,181 doctors in 2016-17 and 1,173 doctors in 2017-18 (total 2,354 doctors).
• So, the commission has been requested to recruit a total of 5,640 doctors.
• Over 7,328 seats for doctors have been laying vacant since long.
• No action was being taken to fill the void and the hospitals were suffering from acute shortage of doctors.
• Now over 1,000 BHMS doctors would be posted at the Primary Health Centers across the state.

According to the data fetched from the government office, the state is in need of over 7,000 doctors and 18,000 paramedical staffers, and over 83 per cent seats for health professionals and experts have been laying vacant at the Community Health Centers.
