HC orders UP govt to finalise local body elections by November

Allahabad: The Allahabad High Court on Wednesday asked the Uttar Pradesh government to finalise the local body elections by November 2017.

During the hearing of a PIL filed by Ram Lakhan Yadav, the state government produced the date sheet and schedule of the local body elections. The government’s counsel argued that the reason behind the delay in the election was the pleas filed against the delimitation of ruling region of MLAs.

The government assured the HC bench, comprising Justice DB Bhosale and Justice AK Gupta, to complete the preparations at its end by the given time, while the Election Commission pointed out that it requires at least 35 days after receiving the schedule from the government to conduct the polls.
