Fire breaks out at Ghaziabad chemical factory, animals burnt alive

Ghaziabad: Two cows and a calf were burnt to death and over a dozen animals were critically injured in a major fire that broke out in a chemical factory in Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh. No loss to human lives were reported.

The incident took place in the Pandav Nagar industrial area in the intervening hours of Sunday and Monday. More than three dozen fire brigades from neighbouring cities Noida and Meerut, besides Ghaziabad itself, were put in service to douse the inferno that spread due to the gusty winds.

The blaze was continuously fed by the regular explosions in the chemical factory as the stockpiles of chemicals exploded along with the LPG cylinders kept inside.

According to the district official all neighbouring factories were vacated but unfortunately the fire also spread to a paint factory in the vicinity.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team has also been rushed to the spot to oversee rescue of any persons trapped inside the blazing factory campus.

District Magistrate officers and other senior police officials were also deployed to the incident spot.

Officer Sunil Sharma stated, "The situation was under control now and the assessment of the damage was being done."
