Balia: A female Bharatiya Janata Party worker was asked to take off her burqa to attend Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's rally here, on Tuesday.

A video that has been circulated on social media, a police officer was seen asking a woman to take off the burqa as she was sitting among other women at the place where the CM had to address the gathering.

Balia Superintendent of Police Anil Kumar, however, said that he was uniformed about any such incident. He assured a proper investigation into the matter saying that the police was only instructed to ensure that no black flags were shown to the Chief Minister.

The woman and her husband are the party workers and when asked, she said that she did not know why she was being asked to remove her burqa.

It is to be mentioned that the incident took place days after the UP CM was shown black flags by some protesters while he was addressing an election meeting in Meerut on Saturday last.

Meanwhile, polling to elect chairmen of local bodies is underway in 24 districts of Uttar Pradesh.
