8 killed, 70 injured as Kashmir protests against Wanis killing

Srinagar: Eight persons were killed while 70 others were injured in clashes between violent mobs and security forces in Kashmir.

The mobs on Saturday set afire five buildings including three police outposts as well as some vehicles while protesting against the security forces for killing Hizbul Mujahideen poster boy Burhan Wani in an encounter.

25-year-old Amir Bashir was allegedly killed by a bullet fired by security forces at Verinag locality of Anantnag district in South Kashmir.

Another youth namely Zubair Ahmad was killed under similar circumstances in Qaimoh locality. “The deceased had many bullet injuries on his chest,” said a doctor at the district hospital of Anantnag on condition of anonymity.

One Saqib Manzoor (16-year-old) was declared brought dead by the doctors at Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) Hospital in Srinagar.

Furthermore, there were unconfirmed reports of death that the police did not speak about.

Other highlights:

  • Wani’s funeral was attended by a large score of people at Tral town in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir.
  • At least 70 other men were injured while protesting across the valley, said police.
