Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, on Friday, credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah for the party's victory in the UP local body polls.

Addressing a press conference here, UP Chief Minister said, "I credit the victory to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision and BJP chief Amit Shah's strategy."

With declaration of the results, the Bharatiya Janata Party has swept the Mayoral elections of the state by winning at 14 municipal corporations.

The BSP also gave a tough fight to the saffron party and won in two municipal corporations.

In a disappointing news for the Congress, its candidates in Amethi, the parliamentary constituency of party Vice President Rahul Gandhi, trailed in all the Nagar Panchayat seats during vote count for the civic polls.

These polls are seen as the first real test of the Yogi Adityanath government in the state, who led the BJP’s campaign carrying out 40 election rallies across the state.

The polls were conducted in three phases on November 22, 26 and 29. The counting is going on for 16 nagar nigam, 198 nagar palika parishad and 438 nagar panchayats.
