BHU Lathicharge: Yogi Adityanath orders magisterial enquiry

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said that a magisterial enquiry has been ordered into the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) incident, where some journalists were also lathicharged along with the students.

Saying that report of the entire incident will be submitted to the Centre, UP CM ordered the administration to deal strongly with anti-social elements vitiating the atmosphere of the university.

Yogi said, "Administration has been advised to not trouble any student, but deal strongly with anti-social elements vitiating the atmosphere."

Meanwhile, the government spokesperson and cabinet minister Shrikant Sharma has accused opposition of inciting violence in BHU in the name of politics.

He said, "We appeal to them (opposition) to do politics with us but not spoil the atmosphere of campuses by staging dharna and demonstrations."
