Beware: FDA finds Britannia Veg Cakes to be non-vegetarian

Barabanki: Britannia company has landed in the soup after the sample of its ‘Veg Fruit Cakes’ has failed the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) test in Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh.

According to the reports of the FDA test, Britannia’s cakes were not purely vegetarian and the company was violating the packaging and levelling act. The company did not mention on the cake’s packet what was mandatory as per the FDA guidelines. The Administrative Court has imposed a fine of Rs 4.1 lakh on Britannia.

  • The sample of the brand’s packed chocolate cakes was sent for testing by Food Security Officer Sanjay Singh to FDA, Barabanki.
  • Reports said the company was deceiving its customers.
  • Chief Food Inspector of Barabanki Manoj Verma said the cakes were not vegetarian as claimed by Britannia.
  • The Britannia company has not given a brown coloured symbol on the cake’s packet which indicates the product to be non-vegetarian.
