BAAHUBALLI takes home maximum number of awards at IIFA-2016

New Delhi: 'Baahuballi', one of the biggest grossers of 2015, walked away with maximum awards in tamil category at International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA) -2016, the mega show of South Inidan film industry on Sunday evening.

"Baahubali', a 2015 Indian epic historical fiction film directed by S. S. Rajamouli is the first of two cinematic parts. The film was simultaneously made in Telugu and Tamil and dubbed into Hindi, Malayalam and French. It baaged a total of six awards including Best Picture, Direction, Supporting Role (Male), Supporting Role (Female), Playback Singer (Male) and Playback Singer (Female).

International Indian Film Academy Awards are annual awards given to the Hindi stars annually for artistic and technical achievements. This year, for the first time IIFA has started a new initiative called IIFA Utsavam to award talents from the southern film industries- Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.

  • Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan was the main guest of IIFA-2016. The awards night that saw numerous celebrities from the four south industries converge together under one roof. Kamal Haasan paid a beautiful tribute to his mentor K Balachander calling him his father.

Malyalam Film Award Winners-

Ennu Ninte Moideen took home the highest number of accolades with a total tally of six awards including Best Picture, Leading Role (Male), Leading Role (Female), Supporting Role (Female) and Playback Singer (Female).

  • Jayam Ravi won the award for Leading Role (Male) for his performance in Thani Oruvan (Tamil) while Nayanthara walked away with the award for Leading Role (Female) for May (Tamil). Prithviraj Sukumaran and Parvathi Menon won Best Actor and Best Actress for their film Ennu Ninte Moideen.

  • The evening also saw some incredible performances - Kavya Madhavan opened the evening with a fantastic routine. Superstar divasShriya Saran, Adah Sharma, Tapsee Pannu, Mamta Mohandas and Nikki Galrani held the audience spell-bound with a stunning performance. Also the dynamic star Bharath lit the stage on fire with some incredible moves.
