Intense Cold Grips Several States, Rain and Chills Ahead; Dense Fog Alert Issued

New Delhi:* In these days, a severe cold wave is wreaking havoc across northern India, with no signs of relief in sight. The Meteorological Department predicts that the next two days could bring severe cold conditions, termed "Cold Day," to many states in the country, including Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, and Chandigarh.

Some areas may experience a Severe Cold Day today, accompanied by dense fog, adding to people's difficulties. An alert for heavy rain has been issued in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

**Delhi's Weather Disruption**

The Meteorological Department suggests that the weather in Delhi-NCR may take a turn for the worse today. According to forecasts, a fresh western disturbance could lead to rainfall in various parts of the capital. The next 24 hours could see scattered showers in Delhi, and the possibility of drizzles has been indicated.

An alert for localized rain has been issued in 33 districts of Uttar Pradesh, where dense fog persists. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert in these districts, along with the expectation of light rain in seven districts adjoining Madhya Pradesh. The influence of a new western disturbance may bring rainfall to Uttar Pradesh until January 11, accompanied by strong winds and the possibility of drizzles.

**Rain Expectations in Some Regions**

The Meteorological Department anticipates cold waves in northern and central India over the next 2-3 days, along with the possibility of rain. A wind and precipitation disturbance is expected to bring rain, along with thunder and lightning, to Rajasthan and western Madhya Pradesh in the next three days. IMD has forecasted light rain in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh on January 8 and 9.

Additionally, the northern parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra might experience rainfall in the next two days. Tamil Nadu and Kerala may face heavy rainfall with thunder and lightning in the coming days. The Meteorological Department predicts the possibility of intense rain with thunderstorms in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

**Heavy Clouds in Some Areas**

According to Skymet Weather's report, Tamil Nadu might experience heavy rainfall in some places, while light to moderate rainfall is expected in Kerala and southern Karnataka. Light to moderate rain is also possible in Lakshadweep, Konkan, Goa, Rajasthan, eastern Gujarat, eastern Rajasthan, and western Madhya Pradesh.

Punjab, some parts of northern Haryana, western Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar might witness dense fog at one or two locations, causing inconvenience. Eastern Uttar Pradesh, eastern Madhya Pradesh, and Tripura may experience dense fog in one or two places. The forecast suggests that the situation might worsen due to the cool northwesterly winds in Uttar Pradesh.

Rain in Specific Areas

Skymet Weather predicts light to moderate rain in some places in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. The possibility of rain has also been indicated in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, western Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar.
