New Delhi:* The northern regions of India are currently experiencing biting cold temperatures, causing difficulties for people due to a drop in temperatures in several states. In various districts of Uttar Pradesh, residents are grappling with chilling temperatures and dense fog. The capital city, Lucknow, witnessed thick fog on Friday morning. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for dense fog in 19 districts and a yellow alert in 34 districts across the state today.

In Kanpur, Lakhimpur, and Fatehgarh, severe cold conditions persisted on Thursday. Many other districts are also facing extreme cold, forcing people to stay indoors. Even Delhi is experiencing a cold spell, but the Weather Department predicts some relief in the next 6-7 days as the maximum temperature is expected to rise. However, the impact of cold mornings and evenings, along with fog, will continue.

**Alerts for Fog and Cold Day in Many Districts of the State**

The Weather Department has issued a cold day alert today for 16 districts in Uttar Pradesh, with dense fog alerts in more than 50 districts. Over the last 24 hours, several districts, including the capital Lucknow and Kanpur, have witnessed cold day conditions. Saharanpur recorded the lowest temperature at 2.7 degrees Celsius.

Kanpur and Lakhimpur also experienced significant cold, with minimum temperatures reaching 5 degrees Celsius. The state is not expected to receive any rainfall in the next 5 days, and during this period, dense fog accompanied by intense cold will persist.

**Potential Relief for Delhi Residents**

IMD suggests that residents of Delhi might find relief from shivering cold temperatures from January 13 to 17. The maximum temperature during this period could reach 19 to 20 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature in the capital is expected to be between 8 to 9 degrees Celsius. While daytime temperatures may improve, cold mornings and evenings, along with fog, will still pose challenges.

**Possibility of Relief in Northern India**

The Weather Department indicates that residents of northern India might experience some relief as the situation of cold days and severe cold days is expected to lessen. However, dense fog is likely to persist during mornings and nights for the next four to five days, causing difficulties for the public. Dry weather conditions will prevail in most parts of the country, with some areas experiencing milder activities.

**Severe Cold in Rajasthan Causes Distress**

According to the Weather Department, several areas in Rajasthan are currently experiencing intense cold due to dry and cold northwesterly winds from the plains. Cities like Pilani, Alwar, Ganganagar, and Churu have witnessed a significant drop in temperatures, reaching the lowest levels so far this season. The capital city, Jaipur, is also facing discomfort due to severe cold.

**Thick Fog and Cold Wave Challenges in Many States**

SkyMet Weather's report suggests that light rain is possible in one or two places in southern Tamil Nadu and Lakshadweep today. Dense fog is expected in some places in northern Rajasthan during the morning hours. Dense fog in states like Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, Jammu, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, North Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Bihar, West Bengal, and Sikkim may pose challenges for the public. Some places in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan may also experience a cool breeze.
