*New Delhi:* The biting cold is taking its toll on people in several states, including Uttar Pradesh, these days. Thick fog during mornings and nights has become a significant challenge for the residents. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for cold wave and dense fog in many states, including Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and more.

Uttar Pradesh residents are unlikely to find relief from the cold, and the state is expected to endure mountain-like cold in the coming days. According to the weather department, in the past 24 hours, many parts of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, most parts of Rajasthan, some parts of Uttar Pradesh, South Rajasthan, Northern Madhya Pradesh, and Bihar experienced intense cold, with minimum temperatures ranging from 3 to 7 degrees Celsius.

**Delhi Shivers in Bone-Chilling Cold**

The residents of the capital city, Delhi, are currently grappling with the biting cold. The weather department predicts that the cold wave will persist in Delhi until January 16. In the Delhi-NCR region, the maximum temperature is likely to be around 15 degrees Celsius, with a minimum temperature of 5 degrees Celsius.

Over the last three to four days, Delhi has experienced exceptionally cold weather, with the minimum temperature dropping to 3.8 degrees Celsius on one day. The impact of the cold and fog is also visible in disruptions to flights and rail services.

**Uttar Pradesh Faces Himalayan-Like Cold**

Uttar Pradesh is also under the grip of severe cold these days. According to meteorologists, the state will continue to experience a cold spell reminiscent of mountainous regions. Many districts in the state are expected to face cold conditions similar to a cold day today. Kanpur recorded the lowest temperature in the last 24 hours, with a minimum of 3 degrees Celsius. Agra also felt the brunt of the cold, with a minimum temperature of 3.9 degrees Celsius.

**Alert for Intense Cold and Dense Fog in Many Cities**

The weather department has forecasted the possibility of a cold wave in many cities of the state today. An orange alert has been issued in these districts. However, there is no likelihood of rain in the plains of the state during the cold period. According to meteorologists, while there may not be rain, an increase in cold is expected during mornings and nights. Areas where the sun emerges may offer some relief to the residents.

**No Respite from Freezing Winds**

Punjab and Haryana are expected to witness freezing winds today. According to the weather department, the ongoing phase of dense fog and cold may continue for the next five days. Despite the sun rising in Punjab on Friday, there was no relief from the biting cold due to frosty winds. Amritsar recorded the lowest temperature at 1.4 degrees Celsius.

In Narnaul, Haryana, the minimum temperature recorded was 2.5 degrees Celsius. According to the Shimla Meteorological Department, most parts of the state are likely to experience rain and snowfall.

**Thick Fog and Dense Fog Likely Until January 16**

According to Skymet Weather's report, there is a high probability of dense fog in the mornings in several parts of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi until January 16. The mornings are expected to be severely foggy. Additionally, many regions in West Bengal, Odisha, Jammu Division, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Northern Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Tripura may face fog-related challenges until January 16.

Punjab and Haryana are likely to experience a severe cold day to severe cold day situation in some parts. In some parts of Uttarakhand, the situation of a cold day may persist. Western Himalayas may witness scattered rain and snowfall during the next 48 hours.
