New Delhi:* A severe cold wave, accompanied by icy winds and thick fog, is currently affecting people from the mountains to the plains. The meteorological department predicts that relief from the chilling onslaught is unlikely for the next four days. Northern India is expected to remain shrouded in dense fog during this period.

From Delhi-NCR to North-West and North-East India, there is no respite in sight from the biting cold for the next four days. Meanwhile, there is a possibility of light rain in some parts of Odisha, Chhattisgarh, along with mild showers in certain areas of South India and North-East.

**No Relief from Cold Wave in Northern India**

Most regions in Northern India experienced a harsh cold on Thursday. Minimum temperatures between 3 to 7 degrees Celsius were recorded in many areas during this period. Ludhiana in Punjab recorded the lowest temperature at 3.1 degrees Celsius. States like Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Punjab are likely to witness extremely dense fog over the next two days.

The dense fog is adversely affecting transportation services. Trains are running significantly late due to reduced visibility.

**Cold Day Alert in Haryana and Punjab**

Haryana is expected to witness the impact of the entire month's fog throughout January. The meteorological department indicates that visibility will be quite low due to the dense fog. Additionally, a cold day alert has been issued.

In Punjab, an alert has been issued for a cold day, with visibility dropping to 50 meters. The western parts of Rajasthan have received a warning of severe cold days.

**Cold Wave Continues in Uttar Pradesh**

The cold wave is not expected to subside in Uttar Pradesh. People will continue to face difficulties due to the intense frosty winds in the state. Despite the emergence of sunlight, relief from severe cold is unlikely. Kanpur experienced the coldest morning in the state on Friday, with a minimum temperature recorded at 2.4 degrees Celsius.

The meteorological department predicts that the next 24 hours will see the continuation of icy winds. During this period, fog is expected to persist in the morning and evening. Relief from the severe cold is not anticipated in the next four to five days, with a possibility of the cold wave persisting until January 22.

**Challenges Amplified with Rain and Dense Fog**

According to SkyMet Weather's report, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain in some parts of Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and the southern coast of Tamil Nadu. Light rainfall is also possible in Lakshadweep, Southern Kerala, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh.

In some areas of Punjab, Haryana, and Western Uttar Pradesh, dense to very dense fog is expected during the morning and night, creating challenges for the residents. Cold day conditions may prevail in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Bihar, Western Uttar Pradesh, and Western Rajasthan.

In Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Sikkim, and North-Eastern India, dense fog is likely in the morning. Cold day conditions are possible in a few places in Punjab, Haryana, Bihar, Western Uttar Pradesh, and Western Rajasthan.

In the Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, some parts of Sikkim, Eastern Rajasthan, and Northern Madhya Pradesh, the likelihood of a cold day prevails at one or two locations.
