New Delhi: There has been a slight improvement in the minimum temperature in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday amid snowfall. On Thursday morning, there was 2-3 inches of fresh snowfall in Tangmarg, Gulmarg and Babareshi areas of the valley.

According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature in Srinagar has improved to 2.6 degrees Celsius last night. On the other hand, it was recorded at 0.3 degree Celsius in Pahalgam and minus 3.7 degree Celsius in Gulmarg.

Snowfall in Jammu-Kashmir:

On December 26, heavy rain and snowfall are expected in many areas of Jammu and Kashmir. On the other hand, traffic on Mughal Road was closed on Thursday after heavy snowfall in Poonch area. This road is often closed in winter due to heavy snowfall. The Mughal Road connects Poonch and Rajouri districts of Jammu region with Shopian in South Kashmir. The 40-day period of 'Chillai Kalan' started in Kashmir from Tuesday, during which the region experiences severe cold.


According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature is likely to increase by 2-4 degrees Celsius in most areas of North-Western, East and Central India in the next two days and after that there will be no major change in it. That is, during the next 7 days, there is no cold wave situation in these areas of India. Cold wave conditions are likely to be observed at isolated places only in Odisha during the next 24 hours.

Heavy rain forecast in Jammu and Himachal:

The Meteorological Department says that in the coming days, a Western Disturbance will be active in some parts of Northwest India from December 24 while another Western Disturbance will be active from December 26. According to the department, on December 24-25, dense fog can be seen at many places in all the eastern states including Punjab, Haryana, North-West Rajasthan, Arunachal Pradesh. At the same time, there is a possibility of heavy rain and snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh on 27 December.
