Weather Updates: Cyclone Yaas likely to make landfall in Odisha

New Delhi: Cyclone Yaas is expected to knock on Wednesday morning near Dhamra port in Bhadrak district of Odisha. Before its arrival, preparations have been completed to deal with it in Odisha and West Bengal.

Cyclone Yaas to reach Odisha:

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed the largest number of teams so far in Odisha and West Bengal as part of its preparations for the cyclone 'Yaas'. They are being evacuated from unsafe places and taken to relief camps, as well as the circumstances are being monitored under control.


Cyclone Alert:

Odisha's ADG (Law and Order) YK Jethwa informed about the preparations that in the coastal districts of Odisha, police teams have stepped up the evacuation operations. He said that so far 81,661 people have been evacuated from sensitive areas and sent to relief centers. Jethwa said that the operation is being expedited and it will be finished by evening.

The ADG said that 60 units of Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) have been deployed in sensitive areas for relief and rescue after the cyclone. He informed that 55 platoon of Odisha State Armed Police will assist him. Along with this, high-tech equipment has been provided to ODRAF teams.

In West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is also constantly monitoring the situation from the control room. Mamta Banerjee on Tuesday reviewed the preparations made to deal with this storm. Mamta said that I have spoken to all the district heads regarding Yas storm. I will be in Nabanna today and keep a close watch on the situation.

Cyclonic storm 'Yaas' can reach Odisha on Wednesday morning. Dr. Umashankar Das, scientist at the Regional Meteorological Center, Bhubaneswar, said that there is a possibility of a cyclone in Bhadrak between Dhamra and Chandbali.
