Weather Update: Cold wave to hit North India in next 2 days

New Delhi: With the arrival of the third week of December, the process of cold winds and cold chill has started in the whole of North India. Shivering winter is being felt in many northern states.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department said that there is a possibility of cold wave conditions in Punjab, Haryana, North Rajasthan and Chandigarh between December 18 and 20. The IMD said, "Light to moderate rain or snow is likely to occur over the Western Himalayan region for the next three days."

Winter Season in India:

The Meteorological Department said, 'This is because a Western Disturbance is being seen as a cyclonic circulation which is forming over Jammu and neighboring areas. Apart from this, another fresh Western Disturbance lies over Afghanistan and neighboring areas. Under the influence of Western Disturbance, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain or snowfall at isolated places over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh during the next three days.

At the same time, there may be light to moderate rain or snowfall in Uttarakhand between December 16-17. The Meteorological Department said that on December 16, there is a possibility of light rain in the northern parts of Punjab, Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh. RK Jenamani, Senior Scientist, National Weather Forecasting Center said, 'We are expecting light and scattered rain in some parts of Northwest India on December 16 and 17.'

Temperature likely to drop after December 17

He said, 'After December 17, there is every possibility of a drop in temperature. In today's situation, there is a possibility of dense fog only in Punjab. However, we are monitoring the increase in fog in Delhi also. Apart from this, the weather for two consecutive days below 4.5 degrees below normal is also considered as a cold wave.
